Check out : So Long, Airborne Laser.
It used to be that the missile defense-y things were supposed to be bad because the could never, ever possibly work. (This was the liberal party line back in 1980s … and rightfully so, since a system them would have to be able to stop thousands upon thousands of incoming missiles back in the Cold War days.) It seems like nowadays, having such devices would make sense; if some small state gets a nuke missile, we want to be able to stop it. That way, it can’t be used for nuclear blackmail.
It seems like the opposition to these sorts of programs became a political dogma back in the Reagan era. Can’t Obama think a little bit outside the box? Please?
