Granted I only skimmed it, but I didn’t notice anything new, just the same old bromides. The one bright spot is he at least mentions the high cost that malpractice suits are imposing on the health care system. He only did so in passing and will not even ask for anything in the actual legislation; Obama basically said he’s have one of his flunkies look into doing something somewhere as a minor pilot program.
Obama couldn’t even bring himself to say the words “tort reform”. Sad.
Again, same old same old. Even the major silliness has been seen before. It is this :
- Obama decried “scare tactics”, but
- Ends with claims that, without passing a bill … “Our deficit will grow. More families will go bankrupt. More businesses will close. More Americans will lose their coverage when they are sick and need it most. And more will die as a result.”
Leaving aside the lack of truth in these assertions, you don’t exactly need the most sensitive Irony Detector to see how these two things relate.
